Dr. Beverly Savinsky enjoys working with a wide variety of clients to meet them where they are and help them achieve life goals. She is a licensed psychologist with over fifteen years of experience as a therapist. She works primarily with adults (ages 18+) experiencing life transitions or seeking to improve quality of life. She is experienced with depression, anxiety, disordered eating, family-of-origin concerns, life transitions (job transitions, relocation, grief), and trauma. She is trained in EMDR, an empirically validated treatment for trauma. Dr. Savinsky draws on varying theoretical orientations depending on the presenting concern but specializes in cognitive-behavioral therapy and EMDR. She also utilizes interpersonal process and family systems theory to enhance therapy.
Dr. Savinsky completed her undergraduate at Wake Forest University and spent three years in education and non-profit administration before returning to Wake Forest for her master’s degree. She completed her doctorate in Counseling Psychology at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. Her research focused on identity development and women in sciences. She also coached engineering students on interpersonal communication and team facilitation.
Dr. Savinsky enjoyed a career in University work, beginning her career at the Counseling Center of Southwestern University (outside of Austin, TX) where she co-founded the Eating Disorders Treatment Team. After trading the Austin sun for the Asheville snow, Dr. Savinsky served as the Associate Director/Clinical Director of the UNC-Asheville Health and Counseling Services. Following relocation to the Triangle, she conducted psychological assessments, individual, couples, and group therapy at North Carolina State University. Having experiences with all ages from young adults to non-traditionally aged students, Dr. Savinsky now applies her expertise in private practice
