Andrea comes to Psychiatric & Psychological Associates of Durham with over 30 years social work experience serving individuals and families across all age ranges and socioeconomic backgrounds. She has worked in a wide range of treatment settings including in-home, community agency, hospital, hospice, and private practice. She utilizes this experience along with a variety of integrated therapeutic approaches to provide individual psychotherapy to adults.  At the heart of her work is establishing a strong and trusting therapeutic relationship with her clients to help them address issues, empower change, and achieve their desired goals.

Andrea graduated from Wake Forest University with a Bachelors in Psychology (1992) and UNC-CH with a Masters in Social Work (2009). Prior to earning her Masters she worked in the therapeutic foster care and juvenile justice systems where she learned to use relational, behavioral, and cognitive therapies to assist children and families in recovering from developmental and systemic trauma. After earning her MSW she moved from community-based work to providing care for adults in both hospice and medical treatment settings where she supported clients facing trauma, chronic illness, grief, and bereavement. Those experiences have been formative in Andrea's ongoing therapeutic work supporting clients navigating anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, grief, life transitions, as well as relationship, parenting, and existential challenges.

Andrea brings her calm, patient, and non-judgmental demeanor to every session. She believes that we are all experts of our own experience, and psychotherapy is a collaborative process to help you find your own wisdom to live your true values. Andrea works with adults who want to live more connected, grounded, and fulfilling lives. Through working with Andrea, you will feel empowered with coping strategies, a renewed strength, and greater resilience to face life's challenges.
